SHARJAH: The American University of Sharjah (AUS) hosted its highly anticipated Alumni Reunion over the weekend, drawing more than 600 graduates from across the globe to celebrate achievements, reconnect, and inspire the next generation.

Organised by the Office of Advancement and Alumni Affairs (OAAA), the event embraced the theme, “Pay It Forward: Inspiring Future Generations through Education,” showcasing the collective power of alumni contributions.

The evening commenced with a keynote address by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, President of AUS. She highlighted the pivotal role alumni play in the university's legacy.

“Our alumni are leaders in waiting—torchbearers of the transformative power of education. Their success underscores the enduring impact of an AUS education,” Sheikha Bodour remarked.

The event also included a panel discussion featuring accomplished alumnae such as:

  • Mouza Al Abbar: Co-Founder of Another and Alabbar Enterprises Group.
  • Eman Al Awadi: Chief Information Security Officer at Expo City Dubai.
  • Fatema Tussugra Shabbir Tapya: Business Development Lead at Najmi Furniture.

This session explored their leadership journeys, providing insights into balancing innovation and tradition in various industries.

Talent and inspiration

Renowned Emirati singer Hussain Al Jassmi delivered a stirring performance, joined by AUS alumna Dana Al Fardan, whose musical talent captivated the audience. In a storytelling segment, Raha Moharrak, the first Saudi woman to scale Mount Everest, shared her inspirational journey, embodying the evening's theme.

For the first time, ticketed entry fees supported AUS scholarships under the “Pay It Forward” initiative. Alumni were encouraged to contribute to scholarships, reinforcing the culture of generosity.

Strengthening the network

The event also fostered professional growth and mentorship. A majlis hosted by the AUS Alumni CEO Club provided an intimate setting for discussions on leadership and collaboration. Additionally, sponsors facilitated vibrant networking sessions, enhancing connections within the AUS community.

“Our alumni exemplify the transformative impact of AUS. This event celebrates their achievements while nurturing our strong community spirit,” said AUS Chancellor Dr Susan Mumm.

Innovation and sustainability

An innovative twist to the evening was a competition centred on sustainability. Alumni were invited to propose business models for a greener future, with a Zeekr X car awarded to the best idea. This initiative underscored AUS’ status as the UAE’s top university for environmental sustainability, according to the QS World University Rankings 2025.

Recognising excellence

The event concluded with a special tribute to alumni who have excelled in their fields, including Nabil Kenan, Ruba Al Nashash, Mariam Fathi, Anam Tariq, and Khaled Khawaja.

Sponsors were also honoured for their contributions, with key partners such as Fast Building Contracting Co., BEEAH, and Sharjah Islamic Bank receiving accolades.

Looking forward

A handcrafted gift was presented to Sheikha Bodour, featuring a portrait of the AUS Main Building. The design, rich in symbolism, highlighted the university's 27-year legacy of excellence.

The AUS Alumni Reunion served as a resounding celebration of achievements, community spirit, and a shared vision for the future. By fostering connections and promoting sustainability, the event solidified its position as a cornerstone of the AUS alumni experience.
